We begin this blog to chronicle our 5th summer as work campers, a lifestyle choice we continue to enjoy while escaping the summer heat in Florida.
In
November Ann and I decided we would like to see another part of the USA
rather than go back to New England for a second summer. We reviewed various job descriptions found on the internet, narrowed our
choices and began sending out electronic resumes. We did several
phone interviews in December and accepted a position at Lake Ridge RV
Park just outside of Hillsville, Virginia.
We chose this job to be able to stay and learn about a part of the United States that we had never traveled before. We have heard for years about the beauty of the scenery along the Blue Ridge Parkway, a famous road we have never been on. We were also looking for more varied hiking opportunities than we had in Maine last summer. This part of the Blue Ridge Mountains has a variety of state and national parks that offer both hiking and biking trails that we are eager to explore. The interview process with our managers, Gary and Cheryl, was very professional, and working with them seemed like it would be a good fit for us.
We hope you enjoy reading about our adventures in the Virginia hill country.
